Alexander Doniphan

Alexander Doniphan is a hero to many in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and to advocates of religious liberty everywhere.

He is famously known for refusing to follow the order from General Samuel Lucas of the Missouri militia to execute Joseph Smith and his fellow saints saying "It is cold-blooded murder. I will not obey your order. My brigade shall march for Liberty [township] tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock; and if you execute these men, I will hold you responsible before an earthly tribunal, so help me God."

We hope the pieces in this collection honor his life, his story and his ideals.

Liberty Jail

Joseph Smith, founding prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was falsely imprisoned here from October 1838 to April 1839. The revelations received by him during this time period have comforted millions. It is our pleasure to present art highlighting this amazing "temple jail" and the events, feelings and experiences that occurred there and continue to occur there.

This section of the modern revelations considered sacred scripture to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is an excerpt from an epistle to the Church dated March 20, 1839. It contains the word of the Lord to the Prophet Joseph Smith while a prisoner at Liberty Jail.

While currently consisting of only one piece, we hope this collection will grow with time.
